Anorexia and bulimia are health problems that manifest as eating disorders and sometimes, if not treated properly, can endanger the lives of people who suffer. They can affect men and women, although it is more frequent in the latter. They can manifest at any age, but it is in adolescence when they appear more frequently.
What are anorexia and bulimia?
People with anorexia or bulimia share an excessive worry about not getting fat, even if their weight is normal or is well below the healthy, becoming food in the center of their concerns and progressively neglecting other aspects of their lives.
Anorexia and bulimia differ by the way people behave in the face of food. It may be the case that the same person suffers from both disorders, either alternatively or successively.
Anorexia Nervosa is characterized by an exaggerated fear of getting fat and a distortion of the body image, which makes people who suffer from it look and feel fat when they are not. This leads them to perform, among others, the following behaviors:
They eat less and less
Perform intense physical exercise, with the only idea of ??losing weight
Sometimes vomiting and/or using diuretics or laxatives in order to lose weight
These behaviors cause an excessive loss of weight that has physical repercussions such as withdrawal of the rule in women, progressive hair loss or dry skin. In later stages, they may endanger life by malnutrition and hormonal imbalances.
